A good EHR
system for an ob/gyn
practice has different requirements than a general practitioner or other
specialist. Because of that, ob/gyn EHR templates must be designed to encompass
those specifics while allowing the doctor to track pregnancy and delivery as
well as regular gynecological exams and tests. There are three essential
features of an obstetrics and gynecology EHR system that should always be present.
These elements capture the relevant information for the various aspects of the
practice.
Clinical Content – The clinical content contains
all of the templates for capturing information related to everything from
annual exams and mammograms to labor and delivery. It includes gynecological
documentation and patient history as well as obstetrical documentation. All
pre-op and post-op templates are located here as well as information on any
procedures related to surgery or pre-op/post-op activity.
This is also where the infertility
templates and templates related to IVF are located. There are also scenarios
for documenting medical problems that are often identified during routine
visits. Prescriptions and treatments are documented here and can be assembled
in a timeline format so that the doctor can have a clear view of the treatment
course.
Delivery Information – The delivery dialogue and
related information is found here. This is essential for the EHR of an ob/gyn
practice. It has an EDD calculator (expected delivery date) and other tools
that allow tracking of actual delivery information as well as expected
information.
